How to Survive in Taylor's (Part 2)
According to rumors, the elevators in Block D is slightly faster compared to Block C and E. If you don't feel like walking and other block's elevators are full of people, use it. Not sure if this is true since I always choose to climb all the way up.

If you need a power point (not THAT power point aka ppt),
This is the power point |
- Student Life Centre
- beside Grand hall
- beside library, infront of Block C, level 2
(note that another similar area infront of block D has no power point) - the long hallway from Block C to Block E, level 2
- e-quarium (located in Block C, level 1)
- Block D, Level 8
- Library, basically every floors.
- 24/7, located next to library.
- many more....
Since the library close at 9 p.m everyday (5 p.m on Sat and close at Sunday), you can use the 24/7 (it opens 24 hours everyday, but you need to make sure you have the student card with you cause after sometimes the door will auto lock and you need the card to unlock the door) AND also some of the classes in Block E, level 3 are open for students to use until morning.

How to survive in Taylor's (Food Version - Part 2)
OK for now I'll try to introduce as many restaurants as possible, which are located in the Syopz Mall there. (Refer to Ruemz for more details about it)
We got 3 floors of restaurants there, I'm going to start from the lowest ground first, the one closest to the lake.
** All the following details about restaurants are copied from Ruemz Dining, I will highlight them using blue font color, so please don't sue me. **
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pizza Cottage offers a casual dining with items including gourmet pizzas made with its signature hand pressed dough. It also offers mouth-watering burgers and a wide variety of appetizers, chicken snacks and desserts.
Location: LG2-7 (closest to the parking lots in the empty field, aka seasoning parking zone)
They also provide other foods beside pizza, like spaghetti and chicken chop. The thing you need to take note is this is a self-service restaurant, you go to the counter, order and take your own dinner set. Overall I feel it's good cause the waiting time is not that long. (I was expecting the pizza to take very long to prepare but meh, not really.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Backofen serves simple Austrian food. Come and have some delicious cakes or pastries along with a nice cup of coffee or tea by the lakeside.
Location: LG2-4
Location: LG2-5
Location: LG2-2 & 3
Hot&Roll is an emerging leader of “Wholesome Tasty Treat Baked Food Products” which can be enjoyed ANYTIME, ANYWHERE especially for those who are constantly “On-The-Go”. The franchise belongs to HOT & ROLL Holdings Sdn Bhd which is the owner of the HOT&ROLL trademark.

I have only tried this twice. The main products they offer in this place are cakes and pastries, but you can also other western foods here. I have not experienced any problem with my order but my friends
had some difficulty last time as they did not deliver the drink for my friends even after my friends finished their food. (We actually asked them several times about the drinks but meh, it came right after we finished the food for like 5 minutes). Perhaps we are just plain unlucky that day.
Mekong House Restaurant offers authentic taste of Vietnamese cuisine that is preserved with freshness and natural taste.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mekong House
Location: LG2-5
I have only tried this twice as well. Not a bad choice if you are tired of the 3 main races' food and want to try something new here. (I actually forget how the food taste like, and now I feel like going there after writing this post) -_-
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OLDTOWN White Coffee
OLDTOWN White Coffee is more than just good white coffee. This is the best place to slowly sip a cup of white coffee while enjoying the ambience and camaraderie of the outlet.
Location: LG2-2 & 3
This is the biggest restaurant you can see in Syopz Mall, and I guess every local know this restaurant very well. Personally I would avoid eating here when I'm really hungry, I wouldn't type the reason here as it might sound very biased. Enjoy the "old" coffee feel here compared to another 2 modern coffee shops.

Hot n Roll

I have yet to try this in our school but I tried another one in other place. It's very good in my opinion, it's something you can grab for quick bite but I'm not sure the waiting time is long or not. Feel free to try and provide me some feedback. (I don't think anyone will do this for me:v )
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's all for LG2, to be continue in Part 3 for LG1's restaurants.
Syopz and Ruemz
If you have already wander around the campus, you should have noticed that we have a Syopz Mall and a Ruemz Hotel in our University. (Actually you can see them when you enter the campus from the main road.)
Current wall art logo for Ruemz Hotel by Design School |
So what are they for?
At first I thought they are some sort of names for the building but then .... well they're not...
I have yet to find out what is the Syopz Mall in this case so I will skip that first :P
Here's the websites for it.
http://www.syopz.com.my/
https://www.ruemz.com
Quite details though, and the pictures look very HD to me.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So now let me introduce our Ruemz Hotel, to
It's the first teaching and innovation hotel in Malaysia ! And it is runs by students if not mistaken.
You can book the hotel rooms through this website, by using iPay88 payment method.
The cheapest room is around RM 17x and the highest can go up to RM 29x per night.
During promotion, the cheapest room is around RM 8x, according to the promotion they are offering.
This is what you see after you click the BOOK NOW icon.
1. You can choose the check-in and check-out date in the bar under the logo.
2. You can also insert the promo code given in the column down there to get your discount.
3. See the circle area, you can change the currency used in that page but odd enough, they put white colour on it. @.@
If you are still worrying whether you should give this hotel a try or not, open this link

and read the review from other customers.
Personally I can't give any opinion since I never stay inside before. :v

How to survive in Taylor's (Food Version - Part 1)
This can cause headache and even until now it is still causing me a lot of trouble especially when I'm having a big group of friends(or even a small one) and we are looking for place to eat.
If you have your own transport and you don't mind losing your parking slot, of course it's your choice to go out for food but please at least try the food here sometimes to support them (just in case one of them gone again like the XXXX and XXXXXX, just kidding.)
For the first part I will be covering the vendor machines between blocks and the corner/side shops. I don't really remember the names so please forgive me if I can only describe how the shop looks like or what they sell. :P
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Food/Drink Vendor Machines ( I only list out the ones I know, can be wrong )
The prices for the drinks usually around RM1 (mineral water) to RM2 something (Milo).
Not sure about the prices of food since I only buy biscuits (RM2) from the machine only.
Location:
(Level 1)
Beside student life central
Infront of E-quarium
Infront of LT 10 (between Block C and D)
Near the elevators (or toilet) located in Block E)
(Level 2)
Between Block C and D (outside of library)
Between Block D and E (near the open area)
(Level 7)
Infront of staircase in Block C
Beside the emergency staircase in Block C
Beside the toilet in Block D
Infront of the toilet in Block E
(Level 8)
Beside the toilet in Block E
** Blue colour = Drink
** Green colour = Food
** Purple colour = Both
*** Most of the machines only accept RM 1 note and coins only.
*** Try to use the old RM 1 note instead of the new one if you have it, it's easier to be recognized by the machines.
*** (Fun/Lame fact) You can try inserting note and then cancel the transaction to get coins, if you want :O.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Side/Corner shops (to be updated)
1. Infront of LT 1.
They sell sandwiches, cakes, coffees.... various kind of food and drink :P
2. Beside the E-quarium in Block C.
They sell fruit juice, nuff said.
3. Located in Block D level 1.
They sell waffles, sandwiches.... various kind of food and drink :P
4. Located in Block E level 1.
They sell a lot of stuff, just go and take a look. :V
5. On the walkway between Block C and Block D (level 2)
Organized by students, the highlight is they sell smiles (just kidding, at least some of them will smile when they serve you)
All these shops are great for students who have classes continuously in their schedule and don't have time to get a proper meal, you can just grab a cheap foodand hide it in your bag and sneak it into your classroom and eat it infront of your lecturer and finish it in a few minutes before you go into the next class.

Useful links
Our uni has quite a lot of websites, but some of them are only accessible by registered students or staffs. I'm going to list out the websites I know and briefly intro the usage of them.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For non-Taylor's related person, these links are available for you to visit.
http://www.taylors.edu.my/
Like other universities out there, this link acts as the main webpage for our uni.
From the main page, you can choose to direct yourself to our uni or college or school page.
Those are content rich websites, covering you every details that you wish to know.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://taylorslibrary.taylors.edu.my
This is the Taylor's library website, the database is shared between the university and the college.
You can check for the books or media available using this search bar, it's a very convenience tool.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
https://shine.taylors.edu.my
This website is for students who signed up the shine award programme, which is for them to get their 2nd graduation transcript. Same as the library portal, this is for Taylorians who signed up the programme only, but other people can still surf it to read the contents.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The coming websites are strictly for Taylor's related persons (students, parents, staff and sponsor) only.
https://portals.taylors.edu.my
The name of this website already explain the function of it, acting as a portal for student.
You are advised to check the portal every now and then so you don't miss out the news and announcement made by school or your programme. Also not to mention that you must check your attendance every once a week to ensure it is correct, because the lecturer can't correct the mistake after a week has passed.
For newcomers, you can always use this drop-down list if you are not familiar with the interface yet.
(honestly I didn't even notice this thing until someone told me about it. -_-" )
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
https://times.taylors.edu.my
This is where our "textbook" and "homework" laid, you can find all the lecturer notes and assignments inside. One of the most important feature here is the ReWIND, which allow you to watch your recorded lecture class video (only classes in LT have the video recorder). You can check who's online here too but I found it useless, other than reading people's name or check who's up during the wee hours or to stalk your friends by checking if their names are on the list. There's also a message function available but overall I only use it once, and people don't seem to notice when people send them a message so.... honestly speaking, it's useless as well, most of the classes will just create a facebook group or group chat for contact purposes. Anyway, this website must be bookmarked in your browser and make sure to place it in an obvious place for you to click so you can save your time from typing the address or google searching it (that's what I do whenever I'm using comp in the lab) or accessing through portal every time.
*Same as the library one, this website is also shared between the college and the university, so you can actually check your friend name by searching them if you have any friends studying in Taylor's College.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://studentcentral.taylors.edu.my/
Another website for insiders only.
The services listed in the Portal are actually blank space or dead link, so the only way to get to the services is through this link. This web is accessible through the Portal also but it's not that obvious since it uses an image as hyperlink instead of words, it's at the right side of the portal. You can check on all the services that you are allowed to use and send enquiry if there's a need for that.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
**** TAKE NOTES ****
The Taylor's Portal is down from 4 am to 5.30 am everyday for scheduled system maintenance, so make sure you download the things you need before or after the given time.
TIMES is unaffected, so no worries about the assignments or lecture notes.

If you have visited our library before, you should have noticed that there are PCs everywhere around the library with this web page ready for everyone to use.
Well I'm pretty sure you cannot use the service if you are not a student from both the uni and the college so this website is pretty much prepared for the Taylorians only.
